A distinguishing feature of Rovos Rail is that passengers may find themselves aboard the train for many days at a time. In light of this we have aboard, an enthusiastic and creative team of chefs to cater for every guest’s requirements. Many scrupulous hours are spent in the construction of the menus in order to offer our guests a wide variety of meals. The cuisine features an accent of local fresh ingredients and dishes prepared to gourmet perfection. Traditional dishes such as game and pheasant are a speciality.

Morning Breakfast/Service

Morning breakfast offers a choice of full breakfasts cooked as per order or a continental breakfast offering a selection of cold meats, croissants, pastries, fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals and preserves all presented as a buffet.

Lunch & Dinner Service

Lunch and dinner services consist of hors d'oeuvres followed by a choice of fish, vegetarian and, meat dishes which are proceeded by a persuasive dessert. Many diners enjoy the formality of these meals manifested through crisp white linen, sparkling silver and, fine china. At dinner, most diners are compelled to dress for the occasion and don themselves in formal attire. Daytime attire is generally more casual and befitting the daytime excursions which are arranged. Meals are complemented with an exceptional choice of the finest South African wines and all meals are served in one sitting in the charming atmosphere of the dining cars.
